New Haven as a city is famous for four things at the moment: crime, the Petit murder trial, Yale and food trucks. We have anywhere from 12-20 food trucks around the city at any given time, maybe more- I've never actually counted since they're spread literally city-wide, from the Wharf (where construction workers are working on the highway) all the way to the Yale Medical Center. And they're all delicious! When I was younger, I thought street food was the most appalling, disgusting, low brow, horrible food available. For the record, I also didn't like sweet potatoes, sushi, or Indian food. Bad decisions on all accounts. Enter the Caseus Cheese Truck.
Caseus is a cheese shop and restaurant here in town that decided diversity was key and opened their own food truck. A grilled cheese and tomato soup truck. Couldn't get any better than that and A and I desperately wanted to go! But every time we tried, it rained. Seriously, every time. And nothing says "Cranky KMSull" more than trekking in the rain. Yesterday, however, it didn't rain, and A didn't have class since it's “reading week”- a.k.a. “we get to do fun stuff during the day and A reads a 500 page book and writes a paper on it at night” week! We went hiking today, more on that tomorrow. They post on twitter where they are for the day; it's usually very close or on Yale's campus. I recommend following them just to read the daily specials.
Pictures are from a point and shoot, for the record. Not the prettiest.
We found it!

A got plain grilled cheese...

So how was it?
Seriously, though. It was delicious. The bread was sourdough (which I've been trying to make myself), crispy, buttery, not greasy. The tomato soup was made with real tomatoes, tangy, a little spicy, and just felt good to eat. For a food truck? 5/5! It's great comfort food and while not as elaborate as some of the ethnic trucks around (Thai, Malaysian), it's fantastic autumn food that I will definintely seek out again. When I'm in that part of downtown to go to library, cause I avoid that area as much as possible.

That sandwich looks like pure magic.
That looks awesome! I know trekking in the rain is no fun, but that might be a great reason for it! What's better on a rainy day than tomato soup & gr. cheese?? :)
OMG that looks heavenly! I need to see if we have a grilled cheese truck around here, Hubs would be all over it!
