Okay so the cool thing about the flea market I went to last Sunday is that it's really random. The booths change every week and if you want something you'd better buy it because it probably won't be there the next time you go. There were a ton of vendors this time that weren't there last time and there were some there last time that weren't there this time. One of the vendors that was there this time was this guy:
I looked him up online and he's for real a world champion bluegrass banjo player! For real! Didn't mind if I took pictures of the banjos he had for sale and even let me take pictures of his Gibson- a $32,000 personal banjo. Such a nice guy and couldn't figure out why I wanted pictures of everything despite the fact that they are so beautiful. He asked me "Why do you want pictures of them anyway?" my response of "they're beautiful!" was met with a pffffffffft! He was nice about it, just baffled. His Banjos were gorgeous and they were going to have a show an hour after we found him, but I didn't think A was going to make it that long since his calf was cramping... next time, if we get lucky, he'll be there again!
The Kentucky girl in me loves, loves bluegrass- there's something so fun and upbeat about it, plus if you can parallel park to that you can parallel park to anything. A good friend from Big Corporate Bookstore is an exelllent mandolin player and made me a bluegrass cd to include in our bags for people that came out of town during the wedding. Probably not everyone's cup of tea, but I enjoy it and it's so very Kentucky.
My little brother loves Gibson guitars and I almost got him one of the banjo necks, but it was early in the day and I didn't want to call him, college student that he is. I had to school him once in what bluegrass was- he was all “this is bluegrass!” when I asked him what he was listening to and I had to tell him it was so not. Don't deny it, little bro, you know it happened. But one day if you're lucky, you'll get to play the $32,000 banjo!
