The boots were a request, honestly. It rains ALOT in New Haven in the fall/winter and since we live so close to his school, he walks. Walking + rain= gangrene.
By the way, “funfetti” cupcakes are totally easy to make from scratch. This:

I don't have a picture of the inside, but just trust me that they melt into little colorful explosions. I made a swiss buttercream icing. So good.
He actually doesn't even care about presents, but I love to give him presents so it makes the day a little more fun for me. We started out at our favorite breakfast place, then he has a meeting about Ph.D. programs, then we took a nap... a long nap, 3.5 hours, and then went to dinner at our favorite pizza place.
I'm a super sappy person in real life, so for “occasions” I tend to look for silly cards to balance that. Mostly so I don't cry a lot when giving them to the recipient. That way I know they'll laugh instead of being like “oh... um... thanks for the card” and then we hear crickets since I'm sitting there crying about a sappy card. A's birthday is no exception. Excuse the pink envelope, which made no sense to me. Even though I'm the one who is more high strung, A can't handle the excitement of a big event, and this card cracked me up.
Hunter wellington boots $125
James Bond Volume 1 & 4 $74.18

Cute! I LOVE my wellies! Dan loves funfetti too, I don't get it. His mom thinks it's hysterical. His 30th B-day is coming up and I have ZERO idea what to get him. :(
Very cute! I actually think the rainboots are kinda cute.
