As I mentioned more a couple of posts ago, one of my best friends husbands was deployed to Afghanistan. Found out that morning, was at R's that night. I love both of them to death and it breaks my heart that more than half of their first year of marriage has been spent apart. Having just celebrated Thanksgiving and getting ready to celebrate Christmas (both with my family or AC's family), I'm especially mindful of the fact that I'm so lucky and so blessed that AC is here with me and so thankful for families like R & M that make the sacrifice day in and day out. I'm no where near as strong as they are. I'm a huge fan of "supporting the troops" organizations/ ideas/ packages and knew that was pretty much the extent of what I could do for M. Seriously, if you know someone who is deployed, send them something- A card, a package, anything, to let them know that you're thinking about them. I've had many friends, and many friends of friends, be deployed and even though it's such a simple gesture, I think it's important to let them know that regardless of how you feel about the war, we support those who are fighting it under someone else's directives. So, here is the package that I sent to M as an idea to get you started. The theme is "hang in there"! Cheesy, but it's silly and fun.
First off, get one of these from the post office:
If it's over 4 pounds, you have to fill out a custom form. You could be like me and fill it out at home and then totally mess it up and end up having to fill a new out at the post office, but I don't recommend it:
The card. I was trying to get to the post office before it closed and ran out of time to make a super cute one:
What was inside the box. It's a monkey bag. Well, gorilla bag, but they hang in there too, right?
* Paul Frank monkey plates
* 2 dozen M&M cookies (not pictured)
* beef jerky
* Runts (cause of the bananas)
* stuffed monkey
* Juicy Fruit gum (cause it's yellow, like bananas)
It's so ridiculously silly, I know. But I wanted it to be fun and lighthearted. Please excuse the lack of quality pictures. I couldn't find the tripod connector and it was dark inside! R was good enough to let me know that M had gotten it- I don't exactly trust the mail, but it got there in one piece and I feel better knowing it did. Have you ever sent a package to a member of the armed forces? What did you include?

I think that's great! He's gonna love it. :)
This is so sweet! I love the themed stuff like this. I am sure he'll appreciate it!
That is SUPER sweet of you!! My ex was in the military and he used to tell me that letters and packages were like gold to them, like the MOST exciting thing ever. I was the hit of his unit the week I sent homemade cookies! haha
